This guide is designed to help real people find real wine. It’s not about obscure bottles and vintages, but wines at every level, from the everyday to the great classics. I’ve organised the book alphabetically to make it as easy as possible to use. All you need to know is the name of the wine, producer, grape variety or region: just look it up and you’ll find all you need to know about its taste, its style, its history where relevant, and its importance. If you find some wines enthusiastically described and some wines – often well known – talked about in less than flattering terms, that’s because I’m an opinionated kind of guy. And so, although this is a pocket book and facts must be squeezed in to all the available space, you get opinions, too. Well, you wouldn’t expect anything less from me, would you?
